How does it feel making a solo debut ? How different is it going from a group to being solo?

It's actually so exhilarating. It is scary, but most of all gratifying. I'm really grateful to have received so much support and love already that inspires me to keep going. Coming from a girl group people might have certain expectations of my solo music and career but I'm so glad the fans have given me the grace, space and time to really hone into what I want to do and allow me to show them my true authentic creativity.

Favorite lyrics from “Breaking Bad?”

It would HAVE to be “I'll have it, I want it castrated, jump on it” I think it really shows how kooky my brain can get because … who says that?? I remember playing it for my mom for the first time and she was taken back for about 5 seconds and then immediately went back to dancing. lol it was like “did she just…?” “ANYWAY” love her haha.

How was filming the music video? Did you have full control over aesthetic and visuals ?

Oh my goodness it was so hectic and chaotic but in the best way. My entire cast and crew consisted of 4 people: Me, my mom, my boyfriend and my cousin. So from start to finish I was so hands on every step of the way. The entire music video was filmed in two hours, on a vlog camera. I really am so present in the beginning stages. I find so much beauty in starting from humble beginnings because it makes the journey that much more exciting. I go ham sometimes, I don’t realize how dramatic I’m being so for some parts, my mom or robbie (my boyfriend) would be like nahhh re do that you look deranged. I get too into character sometimes. 

Can your fans expect more music like this or do you want to try a lot of different styles and genres ?

I feel like with me, one thing for certain is you can always expect music for the people who physically can not be nonchalant. I'm what I call a “volatile feeler” and that will always show up in my music. With my Robbie also being my producer, we work so well together that whatever’s in my brain he can turn into music which is so magical. I can't wait to explore different vibes throughout my entire career!

What’s in Mak’s bag? Name three things you can’t leave the house without.

I love this question! “What's in my Bag” videos are my absolute favorite videos to watch. I want to be on Vogue’s “in the bag” series one day.. deff on my vision board. I actually right now can’t leave without my sinus medication- Im just getting over a sinus infection and those are a NECESSITY right now. I also just got these energy chocolates with caffeine in them, I thought they would work… but they didn’t. I refuse to leave without my digital camera and my tide stick. My day would be thrown off without them, or at least I'd be in public with ketchup on my shirt.

If “Breaking Bad” was a lip gloss flavor what would it be and why?

OMG I'd say one of those intense lip plumpers that burn so bad! It's certainly spicy mint flavor with a healthy heaping of cayenne pepper. I did not hold back in this song at all, and if you’ve listened to it you’d see how fitting this flavor really is.

Listening to Breaking Bad for the first time had me on my toes!! It’s so sassy , girl power coded and it makes you wanna get up and dance. Makhyli’s solo debut is just the beginning of an exciting journey. With her unique sound and unfiltered creativity, she’s proving that authenticity is the key to her music. The best is yet to come for this rising star.
