THE CAB @ THE FONDA

To say that June 1st at The Fonda was electrifying would be an understatement - the voltage of the night was off the charts. The line up was stacked with each artist bringing a new kind of energy with their performance. The Cab headlined with support from Average Friends, Jady and Carr.

Check-out images below from throughout the night, along with more words on each artist.

Average Friends hit us with a set no one would expect; it was their first show ever but they took to the stage with confidence. Fans even cheered right from the beginning. They played a lot of unreleased music, so that was a cool experience to see. Their setlist that night included 3 Halfs, Penelope Cruz, Stressed, All The Small Things and U Know I Luv U. The band knew how to excite the crowd and one of the best parts was how often they would have a surprise guest come up on stage; you truly didn’t know what to expect next. The band was full of smiles and energy up on stage, their joy was contagious. It was a memorable first impression and I’m excited to see what they do next.

Now if you’re a fan of bands like Not A Toy and Voila, you’ll love Jady. They came on stage with an entrance, and the lead singer moved on stage like he owned it. He was so fast that if you blinked, you’d miss a cool moment. The drummer was bringing in the thunder too. A lot of their music had really sick drum moments and the lead singer knew how to move along to it, they matched energy perfectly. There even was a moment where the drummer was holding up one of the cymbals in the air while playing. During their song Chokehold, they had the whole crowd waving their hands along to the song. Their song and performance of Candy had a more upbeat love song energy to it. Although their songs recently that have been stuck in my head are TMSTIDK, Boltcutter and The Jeweler. One of my favorite things about Jady is how each song feels uniquely different from each other. On stage presence alone, I can easily see them on a headlining tour soon.

The final opener of the night was Carr who came out in an iconic Batman t-shirt and black tutu. Her way of moving on stage was different from the other artists, she moved around like a punk ballerina. One of my favorite moments of her set was when she asked for a guy's name to dedicate her song to. It was a hilarious moment that made the audience laugh. Carr brought sass and attitude with her music in a way that many people can relate to. Some of the songs Carr performed that night were Sick Bro, Bang It Out and Loser. I loved it also when Carr would point towards the crowd and how she interacted with her band. She has incredible musical talent and I’m excited to see what songs she comes out with next.

It's also cool that she sings the kind of songs where she's expressing herself without shame. She's not afraid of expressing herself sexually in her music and I feel like that helps encourage girls to be comfortable in their own skin and not let other people tell them how to feel.

The Cab already blew the audience away right from the beginning; their performance was an explosion of energy, nostalgia and emotions. Everyone was giving it their all up on stage, from a photographer’s perspective, it made you wish you could clone yourself so you could truly capture everything

A moment that really touched me was the lead singer talking about his experience being told that he would never be able to sing again according to a doctor and him figuring out his identity during that experience. That helped influence their EP Lock Me Up and more specifically their song on it called Stand Up. I’ve listened to Stand Up before but hearing the story behind it made the song feel more meaningful.

The rest of their setlist included songs such as Locked & Loaded, Temporary Bliss, Back From The Dead, Bad, Sweet Kerosene, La La, I h8 Ur Gutz, 90s Medley, These Are The Lies, Vegas Skies, I'll Run, Every Universe, Intoxicated, Take My Hand, Bounce, Living Louder, Yukon, Endlessly, and Angel With A Shotgun. They even had an epic solo moment for their drummer to shine. The lights they had with their songs were a work of art and felt very cinematic. They really showed their talent with getting the crowd excited during La La, one of their most popular songs. Now if you felt an earthquake that night, it was probably during the encore when they performed Angel With A Shotgun.

For that song, I went up to the balcony and saw everyone dancing down below. The crowd was singing along as well. It was a set that lives rent-free in my mind. I've been wanting to see The Cab for years and they did not disappoint. It was truly a night where every set was an exciting set to see for different reasons. The fans I interacted with were really friendly as well and you could tell that this show meant a lot to them too. It really meant a lot to hear both The Cab's new music and their older songs like the ones from their album Whisper War. Hearing those songs felt like a love letter to the fans that have been there since the beginning. I can't wait to catch all of these bands at many more shows.
